Architecture & Building Enclosure

We partner with owners, insurers, and project teams on independent architectural consulting projects to diagnose building issues, assess damage, and develop clear, repair strategies across roofing, waterproofing, fenestration, and interior construction systems.

Waterproofing

Waterproofing systems are critical to protecting buildings, yet failures often go unnoticed for years before visible leaks appear. Basecamp’s multidisciplinary team investigates a wide range of waterproofing assemblies, from below‑grade barriers to complex amenity decks with pools, planters, and elevation transitions. Our process includes visual surveys, water spray testing, and targeted destructive evaluations to determine where and why systems break down. We assess how design decisions, construction sequencing, materials, and site conditions converged to create vulnerabilities, providing clients with a clear understanding of root causes and associated risks.

Once issues are identified, Basecamp develops comprehensive repair strategies tailored to the building’s conditions and long‑term performance needs. Our team prepares detailed repair designs, manages bidding, and provides third‑party observation and owner’s representative services throughout construction to ensure corrective measures are executed properly. By combining technical expertise, field experience, and disciplined oversight, Basecamp delivers durable, code‑compliant solutions that restore waterproofing performance and safeguard building integrity for years to come.

Fenestrations

Basecamp’s engineers and architects bring deep expertise in diagnosing performance issues with windows, doors, and other fenestration systems. Our team includes professionals who serve on ASTM committees—such as E06, which oversees installation and testing standards—ensuring our work reflects the most current industry guidance. We routinely investigate manufacturing defects, assess installation quality, and evaluate product performance using the standards established by FGIA (formerly AAMA). With advanced tools and certified testing capabilities, Basecamp performs air and water leakage evaluations in accordance with AAMA 501, AAMA 511, ASTM E2128, ASTM E1105, ASTM E311, and ASTM E783 to determine the source and severity of problems.

Beyond field testing, Basecamp provides detailed thermal performance evaluations to understand how glazing layers, coatings, spacer bars, gas fills, and frame materials influence interior comfort and energy behavior. Using methodologies established by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), our engineers calculate expected thermal performance and diagnose issues such as excessive heat gain, heat loss, or occupant discomfort. Whether the concern involves manufacturing irregularities, improper installation, or environmental factors, Basecamp delivers clear, technically sound recommendations. Our multidisciplinary expertise ensures clients receive accurate diagnoses, practical repair paths, and reliable insight into how fenestration systems impact overall building performance.

Roofing

A roof is one of the most important protective systems on any building, shielding interior spaces from wind, rain, snow, sun, and temperature extremes while contributing to energy efficiency and overall structural performance. Roof systems also play a critical role in a building’s lateral force‑resisting system and can significantly influence architectural appearance and property value. Basecamp’s professionals have evaluated thousands of roofs across diverse climates and construction types, helping owners understand construction deficiencies, storm or fire damage, and deterioration from age or poor maintenance. When needed, our team also develops repair designs to restore performance and address underlying concerns.

Basecamp’s multidisciplinary team has extensive experience assessing both steep‑slope and low‑slope roofing systems. Our investigations include materials such as asphalt composition shingles, slate, clay and concrete tile, cedar shakes, synthetic and polymer tiles, as well as TPO, PVC, EPDM, modified bitumen, built‑up roofing, SPF, metal panel systems, and standing seam assemblies. We routinely evaluate damage caused by hail, wind, snow, fire, neglect, and construction errors, identifying the extent and cause of deficiencies with clarity and technical accuracy. Whether responding to a specific incident or long‑term performance issues, Basecamp delivers the insight and guidance needed to move forward confidently.

Fit & Finish

Interior finish quality has a profound impact on how owners and occupants perceive a newly built, renovated, or remodeled space. Yet unworkmanlike conditions, such as uneven drywall, visible substrate imperfections, misaligned flooring, cabinet installation defects, or poorly executed MEP trim, often go unnoticed until the building is occupied. Many property owners are unaware that each trade has defined industry standards that establish acceptable tolerances for finish quality. Basecamp’s multidisciplinary team brings clarity to these questions by conducting detailed investigations into defective interior conditions. By examining workmanship against established standards, we help clients understand not only what is wrong, but why it occurred.

Basecamp’s professionals draw on years of experience as architects, engineers, and former contractors to evaluate the fit and finish of interior assemblies with a trained and objective eye. Our investigations combine field observations, measurement and alignment checks, review of manufacturer installation requirements, and analysis of trade‑specific guidelines to determine whether work meets expected performance criteria. When defects are identified, we provide clear documentation, practical recommendations, and repair strategies that address both the symptoms and underlying causes. Whether the issue is cosmetic or functional, Basecamp equips clients with the insight needed to resolve quality concerns efficiently and restore confidence in the completed space.

Hail Damage

Hail events occur in many areas of the United States, and when they do, Basecamp is ready to respond. Our professionals have handled countless hail‑related claims, evaluating damage to roofing, exterior cladding, fenestration systems, and other building components. Whether determining the extent of impact, assessing repairability versus replacement, or guiding clients through next steps, we bring the technical expertise needed to support informed decisions.

Basecamp personnel have inspected and evaluated countless properties damaged by hailstorms throughout the nation. First and foremost, has the property been damaged by impact(s) from falling hailstones? If so, to what extent (i.e., quantify the damage)? Quite often, and especially in terms of metal roofs, Basecamp is asked to opine as to whether the damage is ‘Functional’ to the building or strictly ‘Cosmetic’. In either case, if damage is found to exist, Basecamp offers opinions related to repairing vs. replacing the damaged components and provides an estimated cost of repair, if requested.
